Green Racing
Concerns about energy security, the environment and the need for new
US-based opportunities for economic growth and development have generated
tremendous interest in the development of green technologies, including
sustainable/renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. Successful
development and utilization of these green technologies could lead to
significant environmental and economic benefits – both nationally and
globally. However, to achieve these outcomes, greater awareness and adoption
of green technologies and business practices are required at the individual
and corporate level. The concept of the current proposal is to create a
winning Indy Car racing team designed to promote the environmental and
economic benefits of sustainable/renewable energy sources and energy
efficiency.
Goals and Objectives:
1. Increase national awareness on ways to become more energy efficient
and reduce carbon footprints through use of renewable/sustainable energy
sources and recycling
2. Provide PR, marketing and business development opportunities for
companies with green technologies or services or that engage in
environmentally responsible business practices
3. Use American talent (driver, team) to emphasize that the US can
successfully respond the current energy and environmental challenges
To achieve these goals we propose the following
specific strategies:
1. Create an IRL team with a carbon neutral footprint by incorporating
green technologies/practices into every aspect of team operations and to use
the team as a real world demonstration project of the feasibility and
benefits of these technologies.
2. Work with the IRL, other teams and local race venues to implement
and promote green technologies/practices for each event.
3. Provide educational material to race fans about the availability and
benefits of incorporating green technologies/practices in their daily lives.
4. Form partnerships with non-profit organizations designed to
publicize or promote green technologies and services
5. Raise money and/or donate race winnings to carbon offsetting,
recycling, or conservation projects
6. Host national, regional and local media outlets to observe and
report on the racing and energy/environmental accomplishments of the team.
